Winter Spring fishing has been very productive the last while. Winter Spring is kind of an Oxy-Moron isn’t it, what does it mean? The Spring in Winter Spring Salmon is referring to Chinook Salmon. Spring Salmon is a nick-name for Chinook and it got this because some runs of Chinook will arrive early in the Spring to spawn, thus the nickname Spring Salmon. Local anglers know you can fish Chinook and do very well all four seasons WINTER,SPRING,SUMMER AND FALL. Winter Spring Salmon are absolutely delicious and are one of my favourite to eat Fresh. OK lets get to the report…..
Winter Spring fishing generally starts to pick up in December and gets better and the fish get larger as winter moves along. It is important to network with other anglers as there are pockets of slow times and also certain hot spots. For instance a couple weeks ago it slowed right down and then in the last week its picked right up. So this week would be a great time to go catching and here are the hot spots. The Mill North to Tla amin has been steady (fat fish), The Spit of Harwood Island (North End),Rebecca Rocks to Coho Pt (Kiddie Pt) If you are short for time just fish right out front of Powell River
