HUNTING IN THE POWELL RIVER AREA
Hunting in the Powell River area consist mostly of Blacktail Deer,Black Bear and Roosevelt Elk.Deer populations are not so good on the mainland so most hunters will hunt Texada Island.Smaller deer but great for the table.Elk are L.E.H. only and Black bear numbers are good.
ELK IN THE POWELL RIVER AREA
Roosevelt Elk transplanted in Powell River have done very well. So well that we now have a L.E.H Hunt every year. Check your L.E.H. Synopsis for info on this. If you are lucky enough to get a tag, make room in your freezer because chances are you will cut your tag.
HUNTING ON TEXADA
Texada Island is one of Sam”s favorite places to hunt Blacktail. Access to Texada is via a 20 minute ferry ride from Powell River. Once there be prepared to see some nice Blacktails and some of the nicest camping sites around. Hunters are able to take 3 deer (2) off of Texada and chances are you will not go home empty handed.
Prime Time hunting season on Texada is Nov. 1 to Nov. 20. Also be sure to check you reg for the junior and doe season.
